About

Getting rid of junk shouldn't start with a phone tag marathon.

junk.xyz is an independent information resource for one stubbornly opaque question: what does it actually cost to get rid of this, and can I do it for free? We're not a junk removal company. We don't own a truck. We publish the numbers and options that most sites bury behind a “get a quote” form.

Why this exists

Search “junk removal near me” and you get a wall of lead forms, national franchises quoting nothing, and local sites that haven't been updated since 2014. Almost none of them tell you the two things you want up front: a real price range, and the free or cheap options — municipal bulk pickup, donation, self-haul — that might mean you don't have to pay anyone at all.

Our whole reason for being is to put that information first, for every city, in a format you can scan in ten seconds on your phone while you're standing in the garage.

How it's built

We start from public data and model outward. City and population data come from the U.S. Census Bureau. Price estimates are modelled, not scraped — a transparent formula that scales a national baseline by local cost of living and market size, so the numbers are honest ranges rather than fake precision. State disposal laws are editorial summaries of real programs (mattress recycling, PaintCare, e-waste rules) with a “verify before citing” note, because these things change.

What we are — and aren't

  • We are an independent reference: prices, free options, and disposal laws, city by city.
  • We aren't a hauler, a franchise, or a broker pretending to be a local business. We never present ourselves as a junk removal provider in a given city.
  • Every price is an estimate and every regulation is an editorial summary. We say so, plainly, on every page.

How we keep the lights on

When you tap “get a quote” and connect with a hauler, junk.xyz may earn a referral fee (pay-per-call lead generation). That's it — no paywalls, no selling your data as a side hustle. It also means our incentive is to send you to a real local provider, not to hide the free options. Those come first on purpose. See our privacy policy for exactly what we collect.

A fee that's off, a law that changed, a program we missed — tell us. Corrections make this better for everyone.
